Mission Log - Sept 12, 2003
We are down to our last few days in Africa!
Our journey home (via Frankfurt) begins on Tues, the 16th, so we are busy meeting with different people in order to carry forward (as far as possible) the projects we have been involved with this trip.
Though some have moved ahead faster than others, it is our prayer that they will all continue to grow and develop to their fullest potential, and in so doing, will give as many as possible, a ‘hand-up’.
The project we see as the ‘First Step’, is the Learning Center.
Well, as of this week, a stearing committee has been assembled for what can be officially called, The OKA (Okahandja) Learning Center!! We praise God for the enthusiasm and commitment of those involved and ask that you pray for them as they continue to do what is necessary to make it all a reality.
One of the local churches is making a large room available as the temporary Learning Center, so classes should begin in the next few weeks.
Val will be able to teach in a clean, protected location with electricity, water and sanitary conveniences.
This is a community project, so remedial classes for youngsters, adult literacy classes, and hopefully, classes on money management will be taught there for a start.
Everyone agrees that bad money management almost always is the reason people fail to provide for themselves and sustain their businesses. So here is where our trip to South Africa and our meeting with Cedrick Buffler of the Mocro-Mba Program, will pay off.
There has been a delay with raising capital for the furniture factory, but we have put plan B into action, which will help the owner to carry on and buy some time. This is an important factory for Namibia, so please pray that we will find the best way to get it up and running.
We are in the middle of our last Panoramic Tour of the Bible course (Sept 10th-13th).
Yesterday, Lon was invited to teach it on a longer-term basis in a small developing church in another squatter camp outside Windhoek. Please pray that opening the Bible in this way will provide long-lasting blessings and encouragement to those who take the course.
This has been an incredible trip for us. We have met and connected with many different people – many we are sure, are not co-incidental, but we will see where God leads us with those connections.
We are truly thankful for His grace to us and for all of you who have supported us with your prayers and contributions.
We have been blessed, strengthened and encouraged by what we have seen and experienced. We pray that what has begun here, will continue to bring the Gospel, hope, encouragement and Life Skills necessary to make significant changes in peoples’ lives here in Namibia and Southeren Africa.
Please pray for safety in travel - that we and our luggage arrive safely!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon,
Love,
Richard and Kaye
